What is this project?

What is the Plain language law project, and who made it?

This project is an experiment by Ackama. Ackama is a company in New Zealand and Australia who make websites and other digital tools. We wanted to try and take difficult technical language and make it easier to read and understand for everyone.

You can learn more about this project from this short video:

Everyone in New Zealand has to follow the law, but it can be hard to understand. We wanted to make sure that everyone has the chance to understand the law.

This is so that people:

  • know what they can and can’t do in New Zealand
  • understand what the government and businesses can and can’t do, and how they treat people
  • can understand political decisions and changes to the law
  • can talk about politics, and make sure they are voting for people that share their ideas.

We believe that it’s important everyone can access information that affects their life, and their friends and whānau.
