You need to know how some old laws from other countries apply in New Zealand. When the Legislation Act 2019 talks about laws, it includes old laws from other countries that are still used in New Zealand. These old laws are treated like they were made by the New Zealand Parliament. You should understand that old laws from other countries that are used in New Zealand are called Imperial enactments. These Imperial enactments are treated like Acts made by the New Zealand Parliament. There are also Imperial subordinate legislation, which are treated like secondary legislation made under a New Zealand Act. If an old law from another country is changed or stops being used in New Zealand, it is treated like it has been amended or repealed. The Legislation Act 2019 has rules about how these old laws are used in New Zealand, which you can find on the Legislation Act 2019 website. These rules help clarify how old laws from other countries apply in New Zealand.
