This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it
to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Principles of Treaty of Waitangi
8: Act not to apply to interpretation of Treaty settlement Act or settlement of historical Treaty claim under Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975
You could also call this:
“This law won't change how we deal with old Treaty settlements”
This proposed law says that if it becomes a real law, it won’t change how we understand certain other laws. These other laws are about settling old arguments related to the Treaty of Waitangi.
The law wouldn’t affect how we read and understand laws that settle Treaty issues. It also wouldn’t change how we use the Treaty of Waitangi Act 1975 for settling old Treaty claims. This only applies to settlements made after this new law starts.
Remember, this is just a proposal for a new law. It’s not actually a law yet. If it does become a law, it will help keep Treaty settlements separate from this new law’s rules.
9: Treaty of Waitangi/te Tiriti o Waitangi not amended, or
“The Treaty of Waitangi/te Tiriti o Waitangi's words will stay the same”
