When you look at the Contempt of Court Act 2019, you will see it has extra information called schedules. This schedule is about what happens when the law changes. If someone started a contempt of court case before this law came into effect, the case will still follow the old law.

You will still follow the old law if your case was started under a different law or under common law before this Act started. The case will keep going as if this new Act was not passed.

If a court made an order or you made a promise to the court before this law started, sections like section 16 and section 17 can still be used to make sure you follow the order or keep your promise.
