The Prime Minister can renew an epidemic notice with the Minister of Health's agreement. You need to know the Prime Minister must consider the Director-General of Health's written recommendation before renewing the notice. The notice can only be renewed if the outbreak is still significantly disrupting essential activities in New Zealand. The renewed epidemic notice will expire after three months, or on a date stated in the notice, or on a date stated by the Prime Minister. A notice made under this section is secondary legislation, which has its own publication requirements, as outlined in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019. The Prime Minister is responsible for presenting the notice as soon as possible after it is made, as required by section 114 of the Legislation Act 2019. The Prime Minister has to follow certain rules when renewing an epidemic notice. You can find more information about these rules in the Legislation Act 2019. The notice must be presented to the public as soon as possible after it is made.
