If you applied to be a New Zealand citizen before this Act started, your application can still be processed. You might have applied to be registered as a New Zealand citizen, given notice that you wanted to apply for a certificate of naturalisation, or applied for a certificate of naturalisation under the British Nationality and New Zealand Citizenship Act 1948. Your application will be dealt with under this Act, as if you were applying for New Zealand citizenship under this Act, if it was not already finalised under the British Nationality and New Zealand Citizenship Act 1948.
