The Public Audit Act 2001 has a list of public entities that do not fit into any specific group. You can find this list in the schedule called 'Specific public entities not falling within any class'.
This schedule is empowered by section 5(1)(d) of the Public Audit Act 2001.
It includes entities like the Armed Forces Canteen Council and the Auckland Aotea Centre Board of Management.
The list has many other entities, including the Building Practitioners Board, the Canterbury Museum Trust Board, and the Chartered Professional Engineers Council.
Some entities are defined in other laws, such as Te Mātāwai, which is defined in section 7 of the Te Awa Tupua (Whanganui River Claims Settlement) Act 2017, and Te Tōpuni Kōkōrangi, which is defined in section 9 of the Te Ture Whakatupua mō Te Kāhui Tupua 2025/Taranaki Maunga Collective Redress Act 2025.
The New Zealand Police and the Reserve Bank of New Zealand are also on the list.
Other entities on the list include the Valuers Registration Board, the Veterans’ Medical Research Trust Fund, and the Workforce development councils established under section 363 of the Education and Training Act 2020.
The list is part of the Public Audit Act 2001, which is a law that helps keep track of how public entities use their money and resources.
