24Discretion not to give public notice

  1. This section applies if the Board, in carrying out its functions under section 10(1)(b) or (d), is of the opinion that there is not likely to be public objection.

  2. Without giving public notice under section 16, the Board may—

  3. approve a recorded name as the official geographic name for a geographic feature, if there are no known alternative recorded names for that geographic feature:
    1. discontinue the use of an official geographic name or recorded name for a geographic feature.
      1. The Board must, as soon as is reasonably practicable, give public notice in accordance with section 21(2) of a decision made under subsection (2).
