The Governor-General can decide that roads, streets, or access ways built near State houses are owned and controlled by the local council. You need to know that this means the council is in charge of these roads and streets. The council can also agree to make roads or streets narrower than usual if they are near State houses. The Governor-General's decision is subject to the Resource Management Act 1991, but it overrides some rules in the Public Works Act 1981 and the Local Government Act 1974. This means the local authority can consent to narrower roads or streets if they are for State housing. You can find more information about State housing in section 16 and section 17 of this Act.
