Designated networks - Designations

10: Designation of networks by Order in Council

You could also call this:

"The Governor-General can create a rule to make a payment network official."

The Governor-General can make a special order to say a retail payment network is a designated network. You can think of this order as a rule that is made by the Governor-General after the Minister recommends it. The Governor-General can only make this order for networks that are not the cash retail payment network. The order is a type of secondary legislation, which means it is a law made under another law. To learn more about how these laws are published, you can look at Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019. This will help you understand how the order is made and what it means.
