The External Reporting Board has several jobs. You can think of these jobs as things the Board must do. The Board prepares and issues financial reporting standards for companies. These standards help companies make financial statements that are accurate and easy to understand. The Board also prepares and issues climate standards to help companies report on their climate impact.

The Board makes auditing and assurance standards for auditors. These standards help auditors do their job properly. The Board also makes authoritative notices to help define important terms like "generally accepted accounting practice" and "climate-related disclosure framework". You can find more information about the Auditor Regulation Act 2011 to learn more about auditing standards.

The Board works with other organisations to make sure New Zealand's standards are similar to those in other countries. The Board also follows the rules set out in the Financial Reporting Act and other laws, including sections 29 to 33. The Board's main goal is to provide a framework for setting standards that help companies report their financial information accurately.
