You can search the register kept under section 36N as long as you follow this Act or the regulations. You can only search the register by looking at the information it must have according to section 36N or other criteria that are prescribed. Only certain people can search the register, and they must have a valid reason for doing so.

You might be able to search the register if you need to for a purpose mentioned in section 36N(2). You can also search the register if you are helping someone else with one of those purposes. An individual can search for their own information, or someone else can search for them if they have the individual's consent.

36OSearch of register

  1. A person may search the register kept under section 36N in accordance with this Act or the regulations.

  2. The register may be searched only by reference to the contents of the register required by section 36N or any other prescribed criteria.

  3. A search of the register may be carried out only by the following persons for the following purposes:

  4. a person, for a purpose referred to in section 36N(2):
    1. a person, for the purpose of advising another person in connection with any of the purposes referred to in this subsection:
      1. an individual, or a person with the consent of the individual, for the purpose of searching for information about that individual.
