Gangs Act 2024

Dispersal notices and non-consorting orders - Dispersal notices - Duration and terms of notice

16: Terms of dispersal notice

You could also call this:

“What a dispersal notice tells you and how long it lasts”

When you get a dispersal notice, it must tell you some important things. It needs to have your name and when you were born. It also needs to say when the notice was given to you and when the gathering happened that the notice is about. The notice will tell you where the gathering took place.

The notice will list the names of people you can’t be with in public places while the notice is working. It will say that the notice lasts for 7 days from when the gathering happened, unless someone stops it sooner.

The notice will also tell you that there are some times when you can still be with the named people in public, and it will say you can ask to change the notice. It will warn you that it’s against the law to be with the named people in public while the notice is working.

You’ll be told that you can ask for someone to look at the notice again. The notice will give you contact details for the police so you can ask for changes or for someone to look at it again. There might be other information in the notice too, if the rules say it needs to be there.
