This law brings together and updates the rules from the Parliamentary Commissioner (Ombudsman) Act 1962. You can think of it like a big tidy-up of the old rules. The old rules are now in one place and have been updated to make them clearer and easier to follow.
The Parliamentary Commissioner is also known as the Ombudsman, which is a special person who helps make sure the government is treating people fairly. If you think the government has treated you unfairly, you can complain to the Ombudsman.
The law explains what the Ombudsman can and can't do, and how they can help you if you have a problem with the government. It's like having a referee who makes sure everyone is playing by the rules.
The Parliamentary Counsel Office has made editorial and format changes to this version using the powers under subpart 2 of Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019.
Note 4 at the end of this version provides a list of the amendments included in it.
