Official Information Act 1982

Purposes and criteria

7: Special reasons for withholding official information related to the Cook Islands, Tokelau, or Niue, or the Ross Dependency

You could also call this:

"When New Zealand can't share information to keep some islands and places safe and happy"

If you want to know some information, it might not be given to you. This can happen if sharing the information would hurt the security or defence of some places, like the Cook Islands, Niue, Tokelau, or the Ross Dependency. You can read more about this in section 5.

If sharing the information would hurt the relationships between the Governments of New Zealand, the Cook Islands, or Niue, you might not get to see it. This is because the Government wants to keep good relationships with these places. The information might also be kept secret if sharing it would hurt the international relationships of the Cook Islands or Niue.

You might not get some information if it would cause problems for the security, defence, or relationships of these places. This is a special reason for not sharing official information. It helps keep everyone safe and happy.
