Official Information Act 1982

Miscellaneous provisions

47: Regulations

You could also call this:

"Rules made by the Governor-General to help the Official Information Act work properly"

The Governor-General can make regulations for the Official Information Act 1982. You need to know that these regulations can be about things like what applications and documents should look like, or how notices and documents should be given to people. The Governor-General can also make regulations about charges for things under this Act, and other matters that are necessary for the Act to work properly.

The Governor-General can make regulations to prescribe forms of applications and documents, and to authorise people to prescribe or approve these forms. They can also make regulations to provide the procedure for serving notices and documents, and to prescribe reasonable charges.

Regulations made under this section are secondary legislation, which means they are laws made under another law, and you can find out more about publication requirements for secondary legislation in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019.
