Overseas Investment Act 2005

Consent and conditions regime - Information-gathering powers

39: Regulator may require any person to provide information for statistical or monitoring purposes

You could also call this:

"The regulator can ask for information to help track overseas investments in New Zealand."

The regulator can ask you to provide information about overseas investments in New Zealand. They will send you a written notice saying what information they need and why they need it. They might need the information to compile statistics about overseas investment in New Zealand or to check if someone is following the rules of a consent or exemption.

You must give the regulator the information they ask for, in the way they specify, and by the time they say. You have to provide the information in the form the regulator asks for. The regulator can keep or copy any information you give them.

The regulator is doing this to make sure people follow the rules about investing in New Zealand, and to gather information about overseas investments.
