Illustration for Overseas Investment Act 2005

If you break a promise you made to the regulator, they can ask the court to get involved. The court can make you pay a fine if they think you broke your promise. You might have to pay up to $50,000 if you are an individual, or up to $300,000 if you are a company or organisation. The court can also tell you to do what you promised to do, or they can cancel your promise. The court can make other orders too, like telling you to pay the regulator's costs, or dealing with you as if you had never made the promise, by following the rules of the Overseas Investment Act 2005.
