If you have a specimen of an endangered species that is a personal or household effect, Part 1 of the Trade in Endangered Species Act does not apply to you, except in certain situations. You are exempt if you are bringing the specimen into New Zealand for personal use.

If you are bringing a specimen of an endangered species into New Zealand that you got outside the country, Part 1 of the Act applies to you. This also applies if you are bringing a specimen into New Zealand for commercial reasons, unless you have a certificate of acquisition or exemption.

You can find more information about this in Part 1 of the Act. You need to check if your specimen is exempt or if you need a certificate to bring it into New Zealand. This helps protect endangered species and ensures you follow the law.
