This Act has three main purposes. You will see these are to put settlement agreements into action. The agreements are about pay for support workers. The settlement agreements were signed on different dates. One was signed on 2 May 2017 for care and support workers. Another was signed on 17 July 2017 for vocational and disability support workers. The third agreement was signed on 25 July 2018 for mental health and addiction support workers. These agreements are used to set pay rates for support workers. You can find more information about changes to this section in the Support Workers (Pay Equity) Settlements Amendment Act 2020 and the Support Workers (Pay Equity) Settlements Amendment Act 2022. The Act also applies the terms of these agreements to employers and support workers. This includes support workers who were not part of the agreements. The Act sets minimum hourly wage rates for support workers after the agreements end. The agreements and the Act work together to ensure support workers are paid fairly.
