If you get a witness summons, it can be given to you in two ways. You might get it by someone handing it to you directly, or you might get it in the mail by registered post sent to your home. You will get the summons at least 24 hours before you are needed if it is handed to you, or at least 10 days before if it is sent by mail. If the summons is sent by registered post, it is considered served when it would normally be delivered.
