Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987

Right of access to personal information

23: Right of access to personal information

You could also call this:

"You can ask to see and correct information about yourself that others have recorded."

Illustration for Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987

You have the right to see personal information about yourself. This information must be about you and easy to find. You can ask to see this information, but some rules apply, like those in sections 8 and 44.

When you ask to see your personal information, you will be told about your right to correct it, as stated in section 25.

Local authorities do not have to keep all personal information in one place, just because you can ask to see it. If you want to see your personal information, some other rules will apply, like those in sections 10(3), 11 to 16, and 18.
