When you ask a local authority for your personal information under section 23(1), they must check you are who you say you are before giving you the information. They have to make sure the information gets to the right person, which might be you or someone acting for you. You or your agent should be the only one to get the information.

If someone is asking for your information on your behalf, the local authority must make sure that person has your written permission to get the information. This is to protect your personal information and ensure it does not go to the wrong person. The local authority must have good procedures in place to keep your information safe.
