The Commissioner's job is to help children and young people have a say in things that affect them. You can think of this as making sure their voices are heard when big decisions are made. The Commissioner does this by promoting the participation of children and young people in decisions, and by listening to their views. The Commissioner also develops ways to engage with children and young people, and to make sure their views are taken into account. This can involve modelling good behaviour and sharing the views of children and young people with the public. The Commissioner provides support and advice to others who are working with children and young people, to help them hear their views and uphold their rights. The Commissioner's role is to encourage children and young people to participate and express their views, and to make sure these views are heard. This is an important part of the Commissioner's job, and it helps to make sure that children and young people are treated fairly and with respect. You can find more information about the Commissioner's role and the laws that govern it on the New Zealand legislation website.
