The Commissioner can decide how to run an inquiry under this Act. You can think of the Commissioner like a person in charge of making sure things are fair for children. The Commissioner has to make sure their way of running the inquiry follows the rules of this Act.

The Commissioner gets to choose how to do things as long as it does not go against this Act. If you want to know more about how this part of the law has changed, you can look at the Oversight of Oranga Tamariki System Legislation Amendment Act 2025. This law is in place to help keep children safe and make sure they are treated fairly.
