This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Regulatory Standards Bill

Information for regulatory reviews

Schedule 1: Transitional, savings, and related provisions

You could also call this:

"How the new rules will start and what happens to old rules"

This part of the bill talks about how the new rules will start working. Some rules won't apply to bills that were already introduced before the new law starts. For example, Section 9 won't apply to those older bills.

The new rules will apply to most new laws, even if they were made before this bill becomes law. But there are some exceptions. For instance, Section 13 won't apply to secondary legislation made before it starts.

The bill also sets some dates for important things to happen. The regulatory standards Ministry must give its first report by 1 January 2030. The board that will check on these new rules will give its first report after 6 months, from 1 January to 30 June 2026.
