This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Regulatory Standards Bill

Regulatory reviews and information-gathering powers - Information for regulatory reviews

46: Restriction on requiring information from contracted person

You could also call this:

"Rules for asking contract workers for information"

This part of the bill is about asking for information from people who work for the government under a contract. The head of the regulatory standards department can ask these people for information, but there are rules about how they can do it.

If the head of the regulatory standards department wants to ask for information, they need to follow these steps:

First, they should ask the main government agency for the information. If the main agency can't give them the information in a reasonable time, then they can ask the contracted person directly.

Or, the head of the regulatory standards department can team up with the head of the main agency to ask for the information together.

These rules are meant to make sure that contracted people aren't asked for information unless it's really necessary.
