This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Regulatory Standards Bill

Principles of responsible regulation and regulatory stewardship - Chief executives must act independently

23: Chief executives must act independently

You could also call this:

"Bosses must make some choices by themselves"

This part of the bill says that chief executives must make some decisions on their own. They don't have to listen to a Minister when they do certain things. These things are:

  1. Writing a statement about how well rules match up with each other
  2. Giving a special report as mentioned in section 16

The bill wants to make sure that chief executives can do these jobs without anyone telling them what to say. This rule would be stronger than other laws that might say different things about what chief executives should do.
