This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

"Checking if a law is working well and telling everyone about it"

When a government agency reviews a law under section 17, they need to do a few things. First, they must write a report about how well the law follows important rules. They give this report to the minister in charge as soon as they can after finishing their review.

The minister then has a job to do. They must show two things to the people who make laws in New Zealand. One is the report from the agency. The other is a statement the minister writes. In this statement, the minister explains why the law might not follow all the important rules. They also say what they plan to do to fix any problems.

The minister needs to do this as quickly as they can after getting the report from the agency. This helps everyone understand how well the law is working and if it needs to be changed.
