This page is about a bill. That means that it's not the law yet, but some people want it to be the law. It could change quickly, and some of the information is just a draft.

Regulatory Standards Bill

Principles of responsible regulation and regulatory stewardship - Regulatory Standards Board - Functions

29: Functions of board

You could also call this:

"What the board does to help make good laws"

The new law wants to create a board with special jobs. This board will help make sure new and old laws follow good rules.

The board will look at existing laws to see if they follow good rules for making laws. They will tell the Minister and other important people what they find.

When the government wants to make a new law, they write a statement about how it follows the rules. The board will look at this statement for new laws that are being discussed in Parliament. They will tell the group of politicians looking at the new law what they think before the politicians finish their work.

The board can only look at existing laws in certain ways, which another part of the new law explains.
