Illustration for Referendums Framework Bill

If a referendum is held, some rules from the 1993 Act will apply. You will be subject to the same offences and penalties as you would be in a general election. When these rules are applied to a referendum, some words will have different meanings, such as "poll" meaning the referendum vote, "ballot paper" meaning the referendum voting paper, and "candidate" meaning an option on the referendum voting paper.
