Charitable Trusts Act 1957

Schemes in respect of charitable funds raised by voluntary contribution

43: Convening meeting of contributors

You could also call this:

“Rules for calling a meeting of people who donated to a charity”

If you want to call a meeting of people who have given money or goods for a charitable purpose, you need to follow some rules. You will need to put an advertisement in the newspaper. This advertisement needs to be approved by the Attorney-General.

In the advertisement, you must explain what the money is for and any new ideas for how to use it. You also need to tell people if you want to change how the trustees can use the money or how they look after it. You have to explain why you want to make these changes.

You must also tell people in the advertisement that they have a right to do something about this. This right is explained in section 49 of the law.

The advertisement needs to say when and where the meeting will happen. The meeting can’t be less than one month from when you first put the advertisement in the newspaper. The meeting should be in the place where most of the money was collected.

You need to put the advertisement in one or more newspapers that lots of people read in the areas where people gave money. You have to put the advertisement in the newspaper at least three times. There should be at least six days between each time you put it in.
