Illustration for Health and Disability Commissioner Act 1994

The Commissioner has to check how well the Health and Disability Commissioner Act is working. You will do this about three years after the Act starts, and then about every five years after that. When you do this check, you have to look at how the Act has been working since it started, or since the last check.

You have to think about whether the Act needs any changes to make it better. You also have to tell the Minister what you found out. The Minister gets a report from the Commissioner and then shares it with the House of Representatives as soon as possible.

The report helps the Minister and the House of Representatives understand how the Act is working and if it needs any changes.
