Illustration for Health and Disability Commissioner Act 1994

Before the Commissioner issues any guidelines, you will see them talk to different people and groups. They do this to get a wide range of views to help them prepare the guidelines. The Commissioner will consult with people like health consumers, disability services consumers, and health care providers.

The Commissioner must do this before issuing any new guidelines or changing existing ones, as stated in section 28 and considering section 14(2). You can think of this as the Commissioner gathering information from many sources. This helps the Commissioner make sure the guidelines are well thought out.
