Illustration for Juries Act 1981

The purpose of some changes made to the Juries Act in 2012 is to help keep jurors safe and private by protecting their information. You need to know that these changes also make sure people involved in court cases have the information they need to choose jurors. The Juries Act applies to jury panels chosen before these changes were made, as if the changes did not happen. When you read about a "defendant" in section 14AB(5) of the Act, you should understand it to mean "accused" until certain other changes come into effect, which are explained in the Juries Amendment Act 2011 and its Schedule.
