Illustration for Inspector-General of Defence Act 2023

You need to know what the Inspector-General of Defence does each year. The Inspector-General prepares a plan of work for the next year at least 60 days before the year starts. They talk to the Minister about this plan. The Inspector-General thinks about what the Minister says and then finalises the plan. This plan cannot have secret information in it. The Inspector-General gives the plan to the Minister and puts it on a website for everyone to see. The Minister then gives this plan to the House of Representatives as soon as they can. This can be at the same time they give a report about what the Inspector-General did the year before, as stated in section 54(4).
