The Governor-General can make rules about ring net fishing. You need to follow these rules if you are allowed to do ring net fishing. The rules can say when you can go ring net fishing, which is between 1 March and 31 August. The rules can also say which types of fish you can catch, like kahawai, grey mullet, or trevally. The Ministers can decide on other rules for ring net fishing if they think it is necessary. These rules are made under the Fisheries Act 1996 and section 23. You can find out more about how these rules are published in Part 3 of the Legislation Act 2019.
