27Functions of department

  1. The department has the following functions under this Act:

  2. to manage and administer the seafloor protection areas and high protection areas in accordance with this Act:
    1. to mark the boundaries of seafloor protection areas and high protection areas:
      1. to undertake or commission research, monitoring, and reporting in relation to the seafloor protection areas or high protection areas:
        1. to perform any function or duty provided under any other legislation administered by the department, to the extent that the function or duty is consistent with the purpose of the seafloor protection area or high protection area:
          1. to perform any other function conferred on the department under this Act.
            1. The Director-General has all the powers that are reasonably necessary or desirable to carry out the functions conferred on the Director-General or the department under this Act.
