You can be stopped by a ranger if they think you might not be following the rules of the Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana Marine Protection Act 2025. The ranger can ask you to stop your boat, car, or other vehicle. They can ask you questions to see if you are following the rules. You might be asked to show a permit, consent, or licence that says you can do something. The ranger is trying to check if you are doing the right thing. They must follow certain rules when asking you questions or looking at your documents, which are explained in the Search and Surveillance Act 2012 and the Evidence Act 2006. The ranger has to be fair and reasonable when asking you questions or looking at your documents. They can only ask you questions that will help them figure out if you are following the rules. You have to answer their questions and show them the documents they ask for.
