Building Societies Act 1965

Management and administration - Registered office

72: Registered office of society

You could also call this:

“Where the society keeps its main address”

Every society must have a registered office in New Zealand. This is where people can send messages and notices to the society. The society’s rules say where the registered office is.

If a society was created before this law started and its main office isn’t the one in its rules, they need to tell the Registrar about it. They have to do this within one month after the law starts. This office will be the registered office until they tell the Registrar about any changes. When the Registrar gets this information, they will tell the District Registrar of Companies about the office.

If a society doesn’t tell the Registrar about their main office when they should, they’re breaking the law. The society and any officer who didn’t follow this rule can get in trouble.
