Building Societies Act 1965

Miscellaneous provisions

132: Offences in relation to property of societies

You could also call this:

“Breaking rules about building society property”

If you take money, papers, or other things that belong to a building society by lying or tricking them, you are breaking the law. You are also breaking the law if you have these things and don’t give them back, use them for the wrong reasons, or use them for things that are not allowed by the society’s rules or the law.

If you do any of these things, you might have to go to jail for up to 2 years, or pay a fine of up to $1,000, or both.

If a court finds you guilty of doing these things, they can tell you to give back or pay back any money, papers, or other things you took from the society.

If you are a member of the society and you want to start a legal case about this, you need to get permission first. You can get this permission from the society, the people who run the society, or the person in charge of registering societies.
