You can do some things with medicines if you are a veterinarian. You can make, sell, or give medicines to animals you care for. You can also pack or label medicines for sale or supply. You can sell or give medicines to a veterinarian for animals they care for. The veterinarian might ask you to give the medicines to someone else to give to the animal. Note that these rules do not override other parts of the Medicines Act 1981 or any regulations made under the Act, except for what is stated in section 17 or section 18.

27Exemptions for veterinarians and certain registered health practitioners

  1. Notwithstanding anything in section 17 or section 18, but subject to the other provisions of this Act and to any regulations made under this Act,—

  2. any veterinarian may manufacture, sell, supply, or administer a medicine for the treatment of an animal under the care of that veterinarian or under the care of another veterinarian, and may pack or label the medicine for the purposes of any such sale or supply:
      1. any person may sell or supply—
        1. to a veterinarian, or, if so required by that veterinarian, to any other person, any medicine for administration to an animal under the care of that veterinarian.
