The Minister can approve funding for projects that help reduce waste or clean up contaminated sites. You might wonder what kind of projects the Minister can fund - it could be something that promotes or achieves waste minimisation, or something that helps fix a contaminated site. The Minister gets to decide what the terms and conditions of the funding are.

When the Minister is deciding whether to approve funding for a project, they have to think about certain criteria that they have set. They can also think about other things that they believe are relevant to the project. The Minister can set or change these criteria by putting a notice in the Gazette.

Before the Minister sets or changes the criteria, they must get advice from the Waste Advisory Board and think about what they say. The Minister has some flexibility in how they approve funding for projects, and they can consider different factors when making their decision.
