The Broadcasting Commission has some main jobs. You can think of these jobs as helping to show what New Zealand is about. The Commission does this by promoting programmes about New Zealand and its interests. The Commission also helps to promote the Maori language and Maori culture. It makes sure people in different parts of New Zealand can watch TV and listen to the radio. You might be interested to know that the Commission also ensures there are programmes for different groups of people. These groups include women, young people, children, people with disabilities, and ethnic minorities. The Commission encourages programmes that reflect the different religious and ethical beliefs of New Zealanders. It also helps to keep programmes that are important to New Zealand's history. The Commission can give money to help make programmes, produce new content, and keep old programmes safe. It can also help with new ways of watching programmes, like on demand. You can find more information about the Broadcasting Commission and its jobs in the Broadcasting Act 1989, which you can read on the New Zealand legislation website https://legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1986/0120/latest/link.aspx?id=DLM1123217.
