Illustration for Broadcasting Act 1989

You can get money for election programmes and advertisements. If the Electoral Commission changes how much money you get, they can ask you to pay some of it back to the government. The Electoral Commission will tell you and the Secretary for Justice how much you need to pay back. You have to pay the money back to the government. The Secretary for Justice can take the money from you if you do not pay it back. They can do this because the money you have to pay back is a debt to the government. The Electoral Commission will give you and the Secretary for Justice a copy of their decision. This decision will say how much money you need to pay back to the government. You will know how much you have to pay back because it will be written in the decision.
