Remuneration Authority Act 1977

A new group called the Remuneration Authority is being set up. You will see this group referred to as the same group that used to be called the Higher Salaries Commission. This is because the Higher Salaries Commission already existed before this law was made, and now it is being renamed.

The Remuneration Authority will have three members, and they will be chosen by the Governor-General. One of these members will be the Chairman, which means they will be in charge. The Authority can also choose one of the other members to be the Deputy Chairman, which means they will help the Chairman.

Being a member of the Remuneration Authority does not mean you are an employee of the government, even though you are working with them. This is important because it affects how you are treated under other laws, such as the Public Service Act 2020 and the Government Superannuation Fund Act 1956.
