Consumer Guarantees Act 1993

Right of redress against suppliers in respect of supply of goods - Right of redress against suppliers

17: Exception in respect of guarantee as to acceptable quality

You could also call this:

“When goods are good enough, but someone said something extra that made them seem better”

Even though section 16 says you can seek help from suppliers, there’s an exception. If the maker of the goods or someone working for them says something about the goods (but not on the packaging or label), and the goods would have been good enough if they hadn’t said that, you can’t ask the supplier to fix it. This is because the goods would have been okay if the maker hadn’t made that extra claim about them.
