Illustration for Defence Act 1990

You are a member of one Service in the New Zealand Defence Force. If you are attached to another Service under section 18 or section 19, some rules change. This Act and the Armed Forces Discipline Act 1971 apply to you with some modifications. You can do things with the Chief of the Service you are attached to, not just your own Chief. In the Service you are attached to, you have the same powers as someone with an equivalent rank. There may be other changes that are prescribed. These modifications apply to you when you are attached to another Service. The rules are modified so you can work with the other Service. You follow the rules of the Service you are attached to.
