The Chief of Defence Force can appoint people to work for the Defence Force. You can be appointed as an employee if you are not an officer, rating, soldier, or aviator of the regular forces. The Chief of Defence Force can choose people they think are suitable for the job. The Chief of Defence Force can also remove an employee from their job at any time, as long as they follow the conditions in the employment agreement. The Chief of Defence Force has the same rights and duties as any other employer, except for what is said in sections 70 and 71.

61AAppointment of members of Civil Staff

  1. Subject to this Part, the Chief of Defence Force—

  2. may from time to time appoint such suitable persons, not being officers, ratings, soldiers, or aviators of the regular forces, to be employees (including acting or temporary or casual employees) of the Defence Force as the Chief of Defence Force thinks necessary for the efficient conduct of the Defence Force; and
    1. may, subject to any conditions of employment included in the employment agreement applying to the employee, at any time remove any such employee from that employee’s employment.
      1. Except as provided in sections 70 and 71, the Chief of Defence Force has all the rights, duties, and powers of an employer in respect of members of the Civil Staff.
