The Responsible Lending Code helps you understand what lenders must do. It explains the lender responsibility principles in section 9C(2) and how lenders can follow them. The Code is not a rule that lenders must follow, but it can help them show they are doing the right thing. If a lender is taken to court, they can use the Code to show they are following the rules. This can be used as evidence that they are being responsible. You can think of the Code as a guide to help lenders make good decisions. The Code is important because it helps lenders treat you fairly. It gives them guidance on how to lend money in a way that is fair and safe for you. This means you can trust that lenders are trying to do the right thing when they lend you money.
